Keep An Eye on:
Washington's Team Defense: over their current three game winning streak has been vastly improved and will need to be a mainstay tonight as they welcome the East leading Cavaliers. Washington over their last three games, have held opponents to an average of 106.3 points per game on 42.6% from the field....15 points below their points allowed per game average (121.3) and 5% less than their season average of opponents field goal percentage ( 47.5%). In fact, 9 of the 12 quarters, Washington has held opponents to below 30 points. Thats always key for the Wizards. When the Wizards allow teams to score around 40 points in a quarter, they usually lose those games.
They have a match-up tonight with the Cavaliers that will put their newfound defensive success to the test. Cleveland comes in 9th in the NBA in points per game (111.9), 1st in the offensive rating (122.2), 6th in pace (100.0), 2nd in field goal percentage (49.7%), 1st in three point shooting percentage (39.4%), 5th in assists (29.0) and 3rd in turnovers per game (13.0). In other words, they're a well oiled machine. They bring scoring balance, high level scoring efficiency and depth....meaning a lot of guys can get it done on a given night. After the recent trades, Washington is fully in on building around their young core, here is another challenge to further their education of turning the franchise around, sooner than later. Lets see how they answer the challenge.
