Keep an eye on:
Wizards Defense: is something to really keep an eye on every game to determine if their fortunes will improve this season. They finished dead last in points allowed (123.0), 28th in defensive rating (119.6) and were 29th in rebounding (41.1 rpg) last season. They have no where to go but up and tonight is as good of an opportunity as any to put the league on notice that they're a different team and that the DMV should have strong optimism for this season.
Kuzma & Poole's Leadership: is mandatory. Respect to them for not running from the challenge of trying to turn the franchise around, now, they have to put action behind their words and deliver night to night. No more questionable shot attempts and inconsistent defense, instead, consistent winning plays, game in and game out. They're talented obviously and have proven they can play winning basketball by having NBA Championships on their resume. The next step is leading by example and bringing others along instead of being one of the players being led by iconic all time players. Let's see what they do with it......
Boston Celtics: They're the defending champs coming off a season opening win where they shot 50.5 percent from the field, 47.5 percent deep and were one three pointer away from setting the NBA single game record for 3-pointers in a game, while turning the ball over only FOUR TIMES. Lastly, they scored 132 points. We all know things start with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, slowing them down can help the Wizards cause.
