Keep an eye on:
Mystics Bench: has been OUTSTANDING during their current run of winning 5 of their last 6 games. Washington's reserves have averaged 34 points per game over that span, including a ridiculous 44 points per game over their last three games, two of which have resulted in wins. Washington has seen various reserves elevate their game to help propel the Mystics during their recent surge to get back into the playoff mix. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (7.5 ppg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg, 22.4 mpg), Emily Engstler (5.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.2 apg, 12.5 mpg), Sika Kone`(6.8 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 13.8 mpg) and Jade Melbourne (5 ppg, 1.6 apg, 1.4 rpg, 13.8 mpg) have all contributed in various ways to provide a much needed boost for Washington during their current streak. It will need to continue today to pull out a win over a tough Lynx team and force a three way tie with the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream for the final playoff spot with five games remaining.
Points Off Turnovers: will be key in today's pivotal contest for Washington. Minnesota is second in the WNBA in points off turnovers, scoring 18.2 points per game off of opposing teams mishaps. The Lynx have five players averaging at least a steal or better, led by their MVP candidate Napheesa Collier who averages just under two steals per game. This is a big deal for the Mystics as they rank dead last in the league in turnovers, averaging 15.2 turnovers per game. Over the Mystics last six games, in their five wins, they've taken care of the ball better, averaging 13.8 turnovers a game. Turnovers kill runs, they kill momentum and eventually, they kill any chance at winning if not kept to a minimum. Bottom line, Washington has to put emphasis on taking care of the ball to be in position earn a big win today.
