Keep An Eye on:
4th Quarter Execution: from Washington has been, outside of injuries, the biggest obstacle in the way of the Mystics righting the ship this season. Countless games this season have had Washington either with the lead or within striking distance of taking the lead, entering the 4th quarter, only to see the Mystics implode in the final period and well......you see their current record. The Mystics rank dead last in 4th quarter scoring (16.7 points), last in 4th quarter field goal percentage (37.4%), last in 4th quarter 3-point percentage (20.7%), last in 4th quarter rebounding (7.7) , as well as being next to last in 4th quarter assists (3.8) and 4th quarter turnovers (4.3).
Washington is already wounded going into their final meeting with the WNBA defending champion Aces. Which means they have no room for error. The Mystics must find a way to put together a complete game in hopes of knocking the champs off. No easy task, however, if they can limit turnovers and be efficient executing on both ends of the floor, a much needed win is within reach.
A'ja Wilson: is a given, considering she's the best player in the WNBA and is the favorite to capture the 2024 WNBA MVP, which would be the third of her career. Wilson is dominant on BOTH ends of the floor and all things Aces starts and ends with her. Wilson averages 27.1 points (1st in the WNBA), 11.6 rebounds (2nd in the WNBA), 2.8 blocks (1st in the WNBA) and 1.9 steals (5th in the WNBA) per game. A total team effort will be needed to contain Wilson enough to walk off the floor victorious. It's possible. In the Mystics first match-up with the Aces this season on June 29th, the Mystics frustrated Wilson, holding her to 11 points on 4-15 shooting from the field. Washington also went into the 4th quarter with a 69-67 lead, before the usual 4th quarter implosion occurred and the Mystics would go on to be outscored 21-8 by the Aces in the final period, losing 88-77.
Containing Wilson is mandatory to have any hopes in defeating the champs.
