The Kevin Durant Martin Luther King Classic’s first day was Saturday at the St. James in Springfield, Virginia.
The facilities were as top notch as the talent on display for opening day of the inaugural event, the fans in attendance are used to seeing talented high school basketball due to the region they are in. This however was an opportunity for both local teams and those outside of the area to share what the sport has to offer from different areas of the country.
There was pride on display from players who wanted to show what parts of the game their region is known for and just flat out battles between top notch opponents. There were stretches of play above the rim on both ends mixed with dazzling displays of playmaking that led to some stellar shooting performances.
One constant is that every team played hard regardless of the score and the crowd never shied from showing love to those special sequences made by special players.
