Central senior guard Trent Dixon shot lights out in the blowout win over defending 2A state champions New Town
Central High School (10-0) came into last nights contest against New Town (3-8) understanding that even though the Titans lost all of their starters from last seasons 2A state title team, they still brought championship pedigree and excellent coaching to the table, and taking them lightly would be unwise. The Falcons did no such thing, cruising to a 60-20 win.
Falcons senior guard Trent Dixon, who has emerged as one of the best scorers in the area, scored a game high 25 points to lead the way. Both teams came out shooting blanks to the start the game, clearly adjusting to the bigger arena at Morgan State University as Central held a 7-5 lead after one. However, Central adapted quickly. Using their swarming defense to cause turnovers and get easy baskets combined with Dixon finding his touch from long range, the Falcons went on a 19-5 run in the second period to take a 26-10 halftime lead. In the second half, Central poured it on, displaying a killer instinct as they outscored the Titans 34-10, finishing them off for their tenth win of the season. Senior forward Rashad Faust led New Town with six points.
