St John's Capture The 2016 WCAC Boy's Basketball Championship


St John's celebrate their first WCAC championship since 2000

St John's started the game on an 11-2 run and would never look back, defeating DeMatha 71-57 to capture their first WCAC championship since 2000. The Cadet's execution on offense and tenacious quickness on defense proved to be the difference in the game. St John's senior Anthony Cowan produced an efficient all around game, finishing with 21 points (6-15 FG), 7 assist and 3 steals, while fellow senior guards Kylia Sykes (17 points, 5 rebounds), DeJuan Clayton (15 points,5 rebounds) and Jeffrey Dowtin Jr (13 points,5 assist, 4 rebounds) provided high level of play all game long. DeMatha star guards Markelle Fultz (12 points, 6 rebounds) and DJ Harvey (9 points, 11 rebounds) struggled to find their offensive rhythm, combining to shoot 8-28 from the field. St John's shot 51.1% from the field, 38.9% from 3-point range and 84.2% from the stripe while the Stags shot 38% from the field, 15.4% from deep and 85% from the free throw line.
