PGCC sophomores Lavonte Sanders (Left) and Patrick Johnson-Agwu (Right) would not be denied as they combined for 31 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assist and 5 steals in an Owls win.
It was Prince Georges Community College sophomore night and of course, the ideal end result would be to send their four sophomores Cameryn Williams, Ochae Bynum, Lavonte Sanders and Patrick Johnson-Agwu off with a convincing win. For 35 minutes of the game, things went according to plan, then Howard Community College (4-19,1-12) fought back to make it interesting before PGCC (13-11,5-8) regrouped to hold on for an 87-84 win. The win snapped a four game losing streak for PGCC.
Sophomore guard Lavonte Sanders finished with a double double, 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assist. Freshman guard Donnell Graham added 16 points and 6 assist while forward Patrick Johnson-Agwu posted 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Howard was led by guard Terrell Willis game high 23 points and forwards Juwan Grant (15 points and 10 rebounds) and John Grant Jr (11 points and 17 rebounds).
PGCC led 48-29 at the half before Howard CC outscored PG 55-39 to finish the game due to PG's inability to close the game from the free throw line (5-23). Howard had the edge in the rebounding battle (43-37) while PGCC dominated in assist 24 to 8.
PGCC will host their regular season finale next Monday at 7pm as they take on Northern Virginia.
