In a game that had national implications, WCAC power Paul VI took on No. 19 Neumann Goretti. It was a back an forth battle between two quality teams in the first half. The size and versatility of Paul VI caused Neumann problems as they took a 18-9 lead in the first quarter. Louisville commit VJ King and junior forward Myles Douglas was unstoppable in the first period. With the feeling of the game perhaps slipping away, Neumann junior point guard Quade Green showed why he is one of the top floor generals in the country. Green would shoot lights out, finishing the half with 15 points on 6-9 shooting from the field with 3-5 being from 3-point range to keep Neumann in the game at the half 35-30. The second half saw the length and versatility of Paul VI just wear down Neumann in a way a boxer uses body punches to wear down his opponent before delivering the knockout punch. The player delivering the knockout was Paul VI forward Corey Manigault. Manigault would score 13 of his game high 24 points and grab 7 of his also game high 11 rebounds in the second half to lead Paul VI to a 77-55 win over Neumann. Paul VI would lock in on Green on defense and he would go 0-4 in the second half and dish out one assist in the process. King would get it going when it mattered most, finishing with 16 points and 7 rebounds while Myles Douglas added 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting. Quade Green led Neumann with 17 points while senior guard Zane Martin added 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Paul VI will return to action against Roselle Catholic (NJ) Monday at 6pm while Neumann Goretti will take on Hudson Catholic Wednesday December 30th at 8pm.
