The return of Slam Dunk to the Beach came with a lot of hype and excitement, and the event did not disappoint. Fielding a National field of some of the best high school teams and players in the country, Slam Dunk came back with a vengeance. As always, there were players who stood out throughout the three day event that we all should take note of. Here they are........
Rawle Alkins (MVP)/ Christ The King/ 6’5/ Junior/ Guard/ (Offers) –
Alkins had the best weekend of any player at the event. He was flat out DOMINANT! Forget being ranked 30th in the 2016 class, Alkins is one of the top 10 players in the country period. His blend of elite athleticism, elite skill and a high motor just makes him a match- up nightmare. Here are his stats from this weekend 18 points and 18 rebounds in a win over Gonzaga, 23 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks in a loss to Sunrise Christian Academy and 23 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assist, 3 blocks and 3 steals in a win over Sanford. A future pro.
Jose Alvarado/ Christ The King/ 5’11/ Sophomore/ Point Guard –
Alkins may be the go to guy for CTK, however point guard Jose Alvarado is the orchestrator of the team. A damn good one. Alvarado plays with that New York flair that all NY guards seem to be born with. He is dangerous in transition and breaking defenders down off the dribble and is a feisty defender who is not afraid of the big moment. Once he adds a consistent jumper it will be trouble.
Jibri Blount/ St Vincent St Mary/ 6’6/ Senior/ Forward/ Cleveland State -
High motor, athletic forward who can step out and knock down mid-range jumpers consistently which keeps the defenders honest and opens things up for St V & St Mary. Posted 22 points (8-10 FG) and 5 rebounds in a win over Salesianum (DE).
Isaiah Briscoe / Roselle Catholic/ 6’3/ Senior/ Guard/ Kentucky –
Briscoe showed why he is such a coveted player and is seen as a potential one and done player at Kentucky. He already has a pro body, with a savvy and I.Q well beyond his years, add in his much talked about skill level and you understand that the talk isn’t just hype, its fact!!
Cheick Diallo/ Our Savior New American School/ 6’9/ Senior/ Forward -Center/ (Offers)-
Diallo is just a force in the paint on both ends but especially on defense. While he is still developing offensively relying mostly on put backs and lobs for points, he is already an elite rim protector and rebounder. Finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks in a win over Haverford.
Mikey Dixon/ Sanford School/ 6’1/ Junior/ Point Guard –
Ferocious competitor who is always on the attack. Tough and fearless scoring point guard who uses his speed to score or to make plays for others.
Garry Jefferson/ Lake Clifton HS/ 6’2/ Senior/ Guard –
Very underrated floor general for Lake Clifton. An efficient, savvy guard who does everything in his power to help his team walk out victorious. In a win over Caesar Rodney (DE) Jefferson posted 21 points (6-10 FG), 3 rebounds and 2 assist with 1 turnover.
Chris Lykes/ Gonzaga Catholic HS/5’6/ Sophomore/ Point Guard/ (Offers) –
I call him the big little man. He was a crowd pleaser in the highly anticipated match-up against Roselle Catholic. Lykes who reminds me of former Lake Clifton and George Washington star point guard Shawnta Rogers, gave Roselle fits in helping Gonzaga come back from 20 points down to force two overtimes before ultimately falling 85-83. A blur on the court, very athletic for his size, tough and has every skill needed to play the point guard position. Finished with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assist in the loss against Roselle Catholic. Has offers from Richmond, Hofstra and Old Dominion so far. Expect the offers to come rolling in.
Randy Miller/ Mount St. Joseph HS/ 6’3/ Junior/ Guard –
Solid scoring combo guard who can score from all three levels. Posted 11 points and 2 rebounds in a blowout win over St Georges (DE)
Sam Miller/ Gonzaga/ Catholic HS/ 6’8/ Senior/ Forward/ Dayton –
Love Millers game. He was awesome all weekend who was difficult to stop due to his great versatility. Has a legit post game, sneaky athletic but can pass and has range that extends out to three point territory. In the game against No. 5 Roselle Catholic, Miller hit the three to send the game into the first overtime, then knocked down the free throw to force a second overtime. Finished with 24 points (9-12 FG/ 3-5 3FG) and 9 rebounds in the double overtime loss to Roselle Catholic. Dayton has a stud coming to campus.
Cameron Reddish/ Haverford School/ 6’6/ Freshman/ Guard/ (Offers) –
One of the best freshman prospects I have ever seen. Reddish just has it! Against Roselle Catholic, he went toe to toe with Kentucky bound Isaiah Briscoe. The 6’6 freshman not backing down, even jawing with Briscoe at times posted 25 points (9-13 FG/ 5-7 3FG), 3 assist and 3 steals in Haverford’s loss to Roselle. As of now, Penn State is his only offer, expect that to change dramatically in the near future.
Chris Silva/ Roselle Catholic HS/ 6’9/ Senior/ Forward- Center/ South Carolina –
Explosive, explosive, EXPLOSIVE. Briscoe may get all the attention and deservedly so, however, for Roselle to win the mythical National Championship, Silva is the key to achieving that honor. Simply a beast. He finishes anything near the basket with powerful dunks, sends shots to bleachers routinely being at the top of square, runs the floor like a point guard and can guard any position. One hell of a prospect, is underrated skill wise as he can shoot, pass and handle the ball as well. Had 11 points (4-5 FG), 5 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals in 20 minutes of action before fouling out against Gonzaga.
Josh Williams/ St Vincent St Mary/ 6’2/ Point Guard/ Senior/ Akron –
Polished floor general, who is very difficult to contain due to his mastery of different speeds to either get him or his teammates a good shot. Never is sped up, always under control and makes smart decisions. An efficient scorer, finished with 21 points (8-13 FG), 5 rebounds and 4 assist in a big win over Salesianum.
Damon Wilson/ Our Savior New American School/ 6’5/ Point Guard/ Senior/ Pittsburgh –
Big point guard at 6’5 who knows how to use his size to his advantage. Can attack the basket at will and is a tough competitor on the defensive end as well. Along with his scoring ability, Wilson has excellent court vision and with his size, finding guys is never a problem. A future Pittsburgh Panther, Wilson is ready to come in and make an impact right away.
